I get a lot of email from people who may be related to me or to someone in my database. I love hearing from all these cousins and friends, and I am very happy to exchange information. I am not an expert, but I will do what I can to be helpful.
But, please, don’t send me random emails asking about people who aren’t related to anyone in my database. And remember, if I have listed a name without a date it’s because I don’t know the date, so there’s no need to ask me if I have it. The same is true of places I haven’t listed. Whenever I know a date or a place, I put it into my database; if it’s not there, I don’t have it. If I haven’t listed someone’s parents, it’s because I don’t know who they are. So, if you’ve looked at my database, and you’ve noticed that a name, date, or place is missing, please don’t email me asking for it. I am not hiding anything.
That being said, I do encourage all my cousins and potential cousins to contact me. It’s very nice to meet you! And I appreciate those who take the time to send me friendly corrections and updates.
I make every effort to correctly document the sources of my information. This includes books, websites, public records, and all the “cousins” who are kind enough to share their personal research and knowledge with me. Listing the sources helps everyone understand how reliable the information is, helps with error checking, makes it easier to avoid duplicating the same work, and gives credit to those who have worked hard compiling it. My information sources are usually listed with the records in my online database. Most people seem to appreciate receiving credit for their contributions. However, if you would prefer not to have your name listed in my database, please say so when you email me.
